Dick Jones Scholarship for Aspiring Communications Professionals-
Rebecca Burrell
Rebecca Burrell, a junior media and professional communications major at the University of Pittsburgh, wants to use her degree as an advocate for ethical living and working standards. A stellar student with a 3.91 grade point average, Rebecca is a member of the Pi Eta Sigma Honors Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success. In addition, she is a member of The Imagination Project, which is dedicated to providing pediatric patients and special needs children with imaginative experiences of light, laughter and wonder. A resident of Aston, PA, Rebecca is also working toward a certificate in public and professional writing.
Diversity Scholarship- Danielle Jackson
A freshman at Rider University, Danielle Jackson has big dreams. She aspires to own her own media production company focused on inspiring African-American women to refuse to be held back by their race or sex. A dual filmmaking and history major, Danielle is involved with the Multicultural Student Leadership Institute at Rider, writes for The Rider News, and is a member of Tapestry, a program of the Department of Communication and Journalism which aims to engage Rider students about underrepresented populations and different cultures. The Voorhees, N.J. resident does all this while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. graduation.
Joseph W. Donovan Rising Star Award “ Isaac Baker
Juniata College hired Isaac Baker in 2016 as a digital marketing specialist but the college got a lot more than they bargained for. Baker has helped transform the college website using the latest code base and with the utmost accessibility and user experience in mind, and he has recreated work processes in the department. In addition, his warm, patient and intuitive nature has earned him the trust of faculty and college leadership. The provost recently asked him to serve on a graduate programs team, and faculty invited him to serve as an advisor on a student senior thesis. He was recently promoted to assistant director of web design.
Don Hale Award “ Dan Hanson
In 25 years as a member of CUPRAP, Dan Hanson has served on the Board of Directors, chaired the Awards Committee, and was a member of the Communications Committee. Dan has also served as co-planner of a Spring Conference, hosted two Fall Workshops as Public Relations Director at Gwynedd Mercy University and Widener University, and was a presenter or panelist at several CUPRAP conferences and workshops. He also helped establish the relationship with CUPRAP ™s sister organization, the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association (OCPRA), and (with his wife, Elizabeth) represented CUPRAP at several OCPRA conferences and served as a judge for their awards competition.
Arthur V. Ciervo Award “ Dr. Ali Houshmand
Rowan University President Ali A. Houshmand is a bold leader–and a genuine change agent–in higher education. Under Houshmand ™s leadership, Rowan has become the seventh fastest growing university in the nation. In just six years, enrollment has increased from 11,000 students to 19,500. Leading Rowan much like a CEO, Houshmand has made issues of accessibility, affordability, quality and serving as an economic engine as the University ™s guiding principles. During his tenure, $13.7 million has been raised for scholarships for Rowan students. Houshmand has led the charge, developing Houshmand ™s Hazardous Hot Sauce, which has raised more than $25,000 for Rowan students in need.
