Assistant/Associate Director of Communications

The Assistant/Associate Director of Communications is responsible for the oversight and execution of KUF’s website and social media channels, as well as assisting the Director of Communications with media relations and print publications. The Assistant/Associate Director of Communications must be able to interact effectively and collaboratively with KUF team members and university partners. The position leads brand-driven communications projects and is responsible for creating, curating, and delivering content that fosters a culture of philanthropy and inspires action. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, attention to detail, adeptness at verbal and written communication, and must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day oversight, support, and maintenance of the Foundation’s website and social media channels
  • Work directly with Blackbaud and KUF’s IT consultant to troubleshoot and resolve website-related issues
  • Serve as project manager for special web projects
  • Take proactive steps to recommend updates and correct aspects of site content, design, and functionality to improve overall performance and user experience, both on desktop and mobile
  • Develop an annual communications plan for social media that aligns with the Foundation’s overall communications strategy
  • Write content and design social media posts, engage with audiences in a timely manner, and use sound judgment in posting and responding to reflect Kutztown University Foundation’s culture and values
  • Increase platform growth and engagement with our primary audience of alumni and donors, as well as current students, alumni, faculty and staff, and others
  • Identify content and write features for the KU Foundation website and KUF/KU publications
  • Create brief videos highlighting the Foundation’s work and projects, student success stories, and compelling content about our donors, alumni, and friends
  • Create graphics for the web, social media, and other projects as needed
  • Coordinate Foundation-wide email distribution, working with advancement services and the development and alumni engagement teams
  • Collaborate with freelance writers, graphic designers, and videographers to manage project timelines and ensure high-quality content
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Assistant Director of Stewardship to create letters, packets, and other personalized touches to thank donors for their generosity
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2-5 years experience in a comparable position, with experience in higher-ed communications, fundraising, and alumni relations preferred
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the established ability to navigate a fast-paced environment featuring multiple assignments and quickly changing priorities
  • Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously
  • Possess outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates creativity and strategic thinking, with the ability to take initiative
  • Thorough knowledge of standard desktop software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Ability to learn to use Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT and NetCommunity; familiarity with a content management system also useful
  • Experience with social media project/campaign management, and comfort working with advanced social media dashboards, listening and monitoring tools, such as Social Sprout
  • Experience managing difficult social media engagements and crisis situations
  • Understanding of how to gather social media data and analytics, and the ability to analyze data to gain actionable insights
  • Engenders a collegial team environment and relate comfortably to donors, alumni, parents and volunteers, as well as to administrators, faculty, and staff members
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required
