The Director of Social Media in the Office of University Communications and Marketing leads efforts to set and execute strategies for using Pitt’s main social media channels to support both marketing and communications initiatives, helps guide overall communications strategies, and serves as an advisor on social media practices to staff across the University. Remote work arrangements will be considered.
The Director is responsible for ensuring that strategies are informed by a keen understanding of social media performance data, and reflect emerging best practices in the field. Reporting to both the Asst. Vice Chancellor for Communications and the Asst. Vice Chancellor for Marketing, the director oversees the operation, employees and student workers who produce content for the University’s official social media accounts to raise the reputation of the University, currently including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. This content will work in concert with the office’s messaging to increase engagement with the University community, including prospective and current students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, friends of the University and the news media. This management position includes direct supervision of two social media specialists and two student worker positions with potential for growth. The director is also a key member of the office leadership team that determines integrated communication strategy that brings together the work of those working in marketing, photography, video production, web design, media relations, magazines, university news publications and social media. Helping create coordination of these functions creates a more powerful and engaging unified voice.
Must have signification experience in social media channels, particularly in higher education. Must have demonstrated familiarity with full range of social media platforms, video production experience and the ability to lead people.
